LETS Local Exchange Trading System

Conventional money is created as debt by private financial institutions for
their own profit-making purposes, not as a social service. This is one root
cause of the economic, social and environmental problems that beset us. The
amount of debt determines the quantity of money, which has nothing to do with the amount of money we need to live
decent lives.
With
Local Exchange Trading Systems (LETS), 'money' is created by its users so it
can never be in short supply or subject to inflation. So long as you can
offer something of
value you can have from the community goods and services of like value.
County Sustainability Group (CSG), like a growing
number of communities, has started a local exchange system which enables
County residents to open their private account, offer what they have to
exchange —whether it be physical labour, consulting services, goods such as
furniture or farm produce, or anything else you have that someone might
be able to use. Naturally, you can also read what others have to offer that
you may be able to use. It is an easy to use web-based system. However, for
individuals with no internet access, or who need some coaching, we intend to
have individuals in various communities in the county that will help their
neighbours and enter the transactions for them if necessary.
Go
to
http://www.community-exchange.org/, browse the
instructions.
Go
to the register section; find Canada, and Prince Edward County. Follow
instructions, and start trading. LETS are very common throughout the world,
and are increasing in popularity. This is partly because of growing uneasiness
about the national economic monetary systems and the volatility of global
markets.
